We treated ourselves to a bit of luxury and excess by spending a couple of days in wine country. We left wet and lush Glenorchy behind and within a 110 km drive we entered a beautiful dry “Western Washington looking” wine scene. The geography and weather here change rapidly and dramatically. We visited four wineries and enjoyed all of the wine. Mostly Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, but all were consistently good and the wine tasting experience is very low key and super friendly.
The most beautiful winery was Mt. Difficulty which had an amazing view out over the valley and the vineyards. We wrapped our day up with a bottle of wine (because tasting by itself is really just not enough J) and a lovely mixed platter. There were many more wineries to visit but I am very aware of my inability to control my purchasing so it was time to move on to Wanaka.

Beetle Juice Pinot Noir! Great picture and wonderful stories! Had to laugh at the discontinued winery visits due to purchasing control...could make the van even more "cozy". Love the sights and the wonderful names of spots. Happy travels, can't wait for the next installment. Kier & David
