Marlborough Region

We find ourselves yet again impressed with another part of New Zealand.  The Marlborough region is primarily coastal and consists of a bunch of different arms and islands that make up the Marlborough Sound, it is kind of San Juan-ish but with bigger peaks and lovely sandy beaches (however the water is very chilly, just like the San Juans).  We were hoping to get out to the more northern part of these islands but sometimes there is a reason for the path most travelled.   The logging industry is pretty settled into the northern part of these islands and the logging is aggressive, however when you come around to the southern part, where the Queen Charlotte Sound is you find just what you would expect.  So we found some great hiking and lucky us, this is also home to the Marlborough Wine Region .. so we tasted but just for a day … the budget you know J  The first picture is of sunset at our campground on the outskirts of Nelson, then a picture of Brendan studying Italian while we enjoy the view out over Tasman Bay and back onto Nelson, then there is me sitting at a bench looking down the arm of the Queen Charlotte Sound.

Well our time is actually getting short, we can’t believe it.  So we are doing a wide sweep with a day of hiking in the Richmond Forest and then down the East Coast to Kaikoura.
